中文 (Chinese (Mandarin))

The world's most-spoken native language

Mandarin Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world by native speakers, part of the Sino-Tibetan family, and written with a logographic system entirely unlike the alphabets used by African or European languages — a genuinely different kind of writing, not just a different alphabet.

What counts as correct

Mandarin is written in Chinese characters, where each character represents a word or meaningful unit rather than a sound, and Itumo works in simplified characters, the standard used in mainland China. The spoken language is also tonal — four main tones plus a neutral tone — meaning the same syllable can be entirely different words depending on pitch, even though tone isn't marked in everyday character text.

Why it matters

Precision, not approximation

Using the wrong character — even one that sounds identical to the right one — produces a real but incorrect word, not a garbled one. Itumo checks that every character is the correct standard character for its meaning, not a homophone or the wrong script variant.
